ROB Marquis is upbeat about Bridport’s chances of getting a result at home to Bitton in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division on Saturday (3pm).

The Bees’ boss has overseen two successive 4-0 defeats to Millbrooks and Buckland Athletic this week.

However, encouraging signs of improvement among the Bees’ youthful squad have given Marquis cause for optimism against the big-spending Ton.

He told the Bridport News: “I expect Bitton will have experienced players and some of them are capable of playing at a higher level.

“At the end of the day, I was pleased with how it went (against Buckland) and I’m certainly not despondent about the way we played and what we did.

“I think we’ll give Bitton a go. I can see improvement and I’m really looking forward to it, to be honest.

“I’m hopefully and I go into Saturday’s game with every reason to believe we could get something out of it at home.

“Why not? There’s no point me looking at their form in the league. We’ve got to focus on what we do.

“I see no reason why we can’t give it a good go. We’re certainly not going to sit back.

“Players will have to appreciate that some of the players who missed out (at Buckland) will have to wait for their chance to get back in.

“Nobody that played doesn’t deserve not to be given another chance on Saturday.

“I’ve got great respect for the players, they roll their sleeves up and keep coming back. I’ve every confidence results will pick up soon.”

Malakai Stanners and Dan Baggs (both groin) are minor doubts, while Troy Walbridge is nursing a slight knock.
