BRIDPORT continue their wait for a first Toolstation Western League Premier Division point this season after a 4-0 reverse at Millbrook.

After a trying start to the campaign, Rob Marquis and his Bees side appear to have a difficult season ahead of them.

However, Bridport were well in the game at the half-hour mark, keeping the Magpies to 0-0.

Millbrook then grabbed the game’s opening goal on 35 minutes, Ben Holter heading home at close-range from a corner.

Bridport’s best chance of the game came through midfielder Michael Hill, who got up well to head a cross just wide.

Bridport went into half-time 1-0 down but it took just eight minutes for Millbrook – and Holter – to grab a second.

After a well-worked Millbrook attack down the left flank, striker Holter drifted into space at the back post to drill home a cutback.

Star midfielder Riley Weedon then went off with a hamstring strain, joining centre-back Dan Baggs on the treatment table after he went off in the 10th minute.

Bridport shipped a third when keeper Jordan Scadding’s parry was swept in by Rikki Shepherd.

And Millbrook had a fourth in the 95th minute when Ben Applegate nodded home a corner from six yards out.

Speaking post-match, Marquis said: “We were holding our own and they played very, very well.

“At half-time it was a positive team talk and we lost a couple of goals at the end.

“We had a couple of injuries and had to change the side a little bit.

“The first 55 minutes we did very well, competed and didn’t look second best. When we conceded the second, it killed us a bit.

“We got a little bit ragged after that and I think probably the belief went a bit. It was one of those. The score didn’t reflect the game.”

Bridport fielded two debutants in striker Harry Boulton plus midfielder Ezra Osei-Kumi, and Marquis was satisfied with their performances.

He said: “We had a new lad signed from Shepton Mallet, Harry Boulton, he worked very hard and I thought he gave a good account of himself – very mobile.

“Ezra came in as well and he also had a good game for his debut. Unfortunately, Ezra had to come off with a swollen ankle.

“Dan had to come off after 10 minutes due to injury and Riley was injured, he came off with a hamstring.”

Bridport visit Buckland Athletic tomorrow evening (7.30pm).
