LYME Regis manager Julien Simier has offered an update on the fitness of star duo Joe Bond and Fred Parsons.

Striker Bond and Parsons (virus) have been out for large parts of this season.

Lyme have put together a strong season in their absence, taking themselves to third in the Devon & Exeter League Premier Division table at Christmas.

However, Simier is keen to see the pair back in action at Davey Fort as the season enters its crucial second phase.

He told the Bridport & Lyme Regis News: “We’re still without Fred, at some point we thought it was Strep A but it’s not, we’re still looking at it.

“Even the doctors are not too sure. It’s a big blow for us because he’s been a big part of our midfield.

“He’s been really bad. You should’ve seen his hand as well, there were some black patches and he was getting swollen down his neck.

“We were like: ‘Mate go and see a doctor, sort it out’”.

Parsons is believed to be on the mend and was seen in the crowd at Bridport’s 3-1 win over Axminster on Tuesday.

Meanwhile, Bond is understood to be back in running-based training with a view to returning in January.

Lyme have been protective of their prize asset, with the Seasiders reluctant to rush him back – especially with the outstanding form of Brad Rowe, who has nine goals this season.

Simier’s men next tackle Crediton United Seconds on Saturday, January 7 (2.15pm).
