ALPHINGTON 2

LYME REGIS 1

LYME Regis suffered a late 2-1 defeat to leaders Alphington in their top-of-the-table clash.

Julien Simier’s men knew a victory would take them within striking distance of the Alphas due to their game in hand.

However, a deserved goal for the hosts from Jack Mills put Lyme behind, the Seasiders having goalkeeper Chris Higgs to thank for several top saves in both halves.

His efforts were rewarded when the in-form Brad Rowe levelled the scores.

Alphington continued to push and got the winner through Rio Potter in the 92nd minute.

Lyme still had four additional minutes to play with and Rowe ghosted past the home defence to score, only for his effort to be ruled out for offside, meaning Lyme’s seven-game unbeaten run came to an end.

Simier said: “It’s just frustrating. It’s a little bit of a wake-up call because we’ve been playing a game of two halves for the last three weeks.

“This time, we realised that just the second half wasn’t good enough, We need to find a way to play 90 minutes.

“If we managed that, we would’ve come back with at least a point.”

Lyme visit Upwey & Broadwey in the Dorset Senior Trophy on Saturday (1.30pm).

Simier said: “We don’t know anything about them but we love the Dorset Trophy.

“The boys are really looking forward to it. We have to play properly for the 90 minutes, which is something we haven’t done.”

Callum Garrett, Haydn Lewis and Gary Knight are all injury doubts.

Lyme: Higgs, Fellingham, R Fowler, Beer, A Rowe, Garrett (Lewis 55, Knight 75), Turner, Parsons, Rawlings, B Rowe, Bailey.
