LYME Regis boss Julien Simier admits two weeks between games is sketchy preparation for the Seasiders’ huge East Devon Senior Cup last 16 tie at Lapford.

Lyme beat Okehampton Argyle Seconds 3-2 but had no fixture at the weekend, symptomatic of a stop-start season for Simier’s men.

However, while Lapford are unbeaten this season Lyme are quietly optimistic of an upset after drawing 3-3 with the Stags earlier this campaign.

Speaking to the Bridport & Lyme Regis News, Simier pledged to give Lapford a “good game”.

He said: “They’ve been consistent for the last two years.

“It’s not pure luck to win their side of the league last year, they always find a way to beat people, which is good character.

“We look at them with respect but we won’t give them too much respect, we’ll give them a good game.

“It’s a big challenge but we managed to get a point from them – we’re one of two teams that did, we’re proud of that.”

He added: “It could’ve been better preparation, Lapford played last week against Dawlish. I was hoping that was washed out – the only week I was praying for rain!

“From the second part of the season we’ve been really good at focusing on ourselves and forgetting about the rest, playing our football.

“That’s the message that we’re going to go there and do.

“The boys are buzzing, they want that challenge.

“If you want to be the best, you’ve got to beat the best.”

Brad Rowe and Jack Lamb-Wilson miss out in Lyme’s only two absences.

The victors will go on to visit Crediton Reserves in the quarter-finals, with the winner of that contest hosting Bow AAC or Alphington Reserves in the semi-finals.
