BLANDFORD UNITED RES 0

BEAMINSTER 2

BEAMINSTER ended a six-game winless run on their way to recording their first clean sheet of the season after a 2-0 win over Blandford United Reserves.

Murray Legg’s Rainbows had not tasted victory in Dorset League Division One since late September courtesy of a 2-1 win at Parley.

Travelling to Park Road this weekend, Beaminster made a slow start but gradually grew into the game as the pace of Isaac House, Robin Jones and Paul Hill caused problems.

Beaminster duly broke the deadlock when ex-Bridport striker Jones pounced on a loose ball in defence before slotting under the Blandford goalkeeper.

Both Jones and House had efforts well saved before Jacob Parsons headed home from a Jones corner to increase the Rainbows’ lead.

Parsons nearly made it 3-1 before the break, only to head wide.

But the action was not limited to the Blandford box, as Beaminster custodian Archie Kershaw was forced into two vital saves before the end of the half.

Beaminster’s defence was marshalled by captain Ryan Sweetman winning header after header together with Harry Angel.

Their solid base gave Beaminster a platform to attack and Jones was unlucky to chip wide before Fin Dolan blasted wide of the near post.

John Kingston had a shot saved and Kershaw was also called into action as Blandford made a late and unsuccessful charge for an unlikely point as Beaminster went home victorious.

Legg said: “An almost perfect performance. Our defence was solid and, on the occasions where Blandford were able to beat our line, Archie was unbeatable.

“We managed the game really well. It was good to get Russell Legg back from suspension to provide the cover in midfield.

“(Jacob) Parsons supported and managed to get forward and our front players were very dangerous breaking with pace.

“We know our league performances haven’t been great of late, although we were very unlucky last week. It was good to put a performance in which we are capable of producing week after week.”
