PARLEY 1

BEAMINSTER 2

BEAMINSTER put in a gutsy performance to beat Parley 2-1 away and secure a place in the Dorset Intermediate Cup quarter-finals.

Murray Legg’s men did not win a match in October but in beating Parley, they defeated opponents they had already taken four points from in the league this season.

Noah House’s stunning finish from 20 yards got Beaminster off to a flyer, the forward finding the net after twinkle toes from Robin Jones.

Parley hit the crossbar in a strong response and then forced Archie Kershaw into an agile diving tip-over save to keep it at 1-0.

However, with Parley continuing to press, the hosts equalising as their forward got on the end of a near-post flick-on, tapping in at the back post.

Beaminster were not for pulling back, though, as Kershaw’s long ball found Isaac House and his trickery bought him space to run into the box before drawing a foul, earning a penalty. House stepped up confidently and converted the spot-kick for 2-1.

Beaminster could have extended their lead in the second half but John Kingston had a shot superbly saved at point-blank range and both Jacob Parsons and Paul Hill fired off target.

Parley were handed a lifeline on 80 minutes as Kershaw committed a foul in the box but the Rainbows’ man-of-the-match spectacularly rescued his side with a tremendous penalty save and Beaminster weathered further late pressure to advance into the last eight.

Beaminster manager Murray Legg told the club’s social media team: “A great team performance. We were looking to bounce back and we did that.

“We defended brilliantly and caused problems going forward. Any one of the defence could have won man of the match but the penalty save was so vital.

“It was really important to get that winning feeling back into the squad, great celebrations afterwards. We want to build on this in the coming weeks.”

Beaminster, who visit the winners of Sturminster Newton Reserves and Poundbury in the next round, host Wareham Rangers on Saturday (2pm).
