BEAMINSTER 2

MAIDEN NEWTON & CATTISTOCK 2

BEAMINSTER claimed a point against Dorset League Division One leaders Maiden Newton & Cattistock with a 2-2 draw at the Memorial Ground.

After the 1-1 draw with Parley last time out, the Rainbows started on the front foot, using a high press to retrieve possession.

Russell Legg forced the Stags’ keeper to save with his feet but shortly after Archie Kershaw made a fine one-on-one save for Beaminster.

However, after a lapse in concentration the visitors took the lead when a deep free-kick allowed the unmarked Jamie Samways to score via the post.

Beaminster rallied and soon levelled when Isaac House cut in from the right, beat two defenders and curled a 25-yard blockbuster into the top corner.

Harry Angel and House both sent efforts narrowly wide before the break but the second half followed a familiar pattern.

Beaminster started brightly but an error enabled Archie Mullins to stroll through one-on-one and finish neatly.

But back came Beaminster when House was fouled in the area and he picked himself up to convert from the spot.

Neither side could find a winner in the latter stages, Noah House coming closest when he failed to direct a header on target.

Beaminster manager Murray Legg told Beaminster’s media team: “We managed the game well except for the two lapses in concentration.

“Teams aren’t creating good opportunities against us. We are gifting them chances and it makes it very hard to win games. We need to learn from this.

“There were a lot of 6/10 or 7/10 performances, we didn’t have enough players who grabbed the game and we see it as two points lost.

“Maiden Newton & Cattistock battled well, seeming to be struggling with injuries in the squad similar to us.

“The strike from Isaac in the first half was a special strike. The best goal the Memorial has seen for a few years.”

Beaminster, who remain fourth, visit unbeaten second-placed Mere on Saturday (3pm).
