DORSET motorcycling star Brad Jones has been discharged from hospital following a severe British Superbikes crash.

Jones was thrown from his bike and into a barrier at high speed during the opening race at Brands Hatch on Saturday, July 24.

The Stalbridge rider was unconscious and airlifted to King's College Hospital with pelvic and rib fractures plus a bleed on the brain and two punctured lungs.

He was placed in an induced coma from which he has gradually been woken and is now fit enough to go home.

However, a MotorSport Vision Racing statement stressed he has a long recovery ahead of him.

"Following detailed assessment by the medical team, he passed all markers required in order to be discharged.

"His recovery path, particularly with regards to neurological aspects, will be long and he will continue to receive intensive neurological and occupational rehabilitation therapy from home with private care.

"On behalf of the family, Brad’s father Tim Jones wishes to sincerely thank all of the medical staff, marshals and all within the BSB community, who have provided so much support.

"Further information will continue to be provided when available."

Various fundraising efforts have been made to aid the PR Racing man's recovery.

His cousin, Lucy Calvert, set up a JustGiving page which has now raised more than £39,000.
