UPLYME & LYME REGIS 282-4 (20pts) beat KENTISBEARE 149 (5pts) by 133 runs

UPLYME & Lyme Regis produced another breathtaking batting display to bulldoze Kentisbeare in a 133-run drubbing at King George V Playing Fields.

Uplyme maintained their grip on top spot in Devon League D Division East in the process – and never looked like losing in this contest.

Steve and Mark Batey set the tone for the hosts after captain Sam Farrow won the toss and chose to bat on a warm day.

The brothers each scored half-centuries, compiling a 114-run stand for the first wicket.

However, the attacking Steve Batey (57) was first to go after James Sprague (1-42) castled his stumps.

Uplyme wicketkeeper-batsman Joe Elsworth (0) then followed a run later, bringing the destructive Tyler Wellman to the crease.

He joined forces with Mark Batey (55) who shortly after succumbed to Jacob Lewis (1-50).

But Wellman (80no) continued his assault, passing fifty and found good support from Farrow (31) and Harvey Brimicombe (13no) as Uplyme posted a daunting 282-4 from 45 overs.

Kentisbeare were never in the hunt as Jibu Varghese (2-14) claimed two early wickets.

Brimicombe (3-33) bowled Scott Chappell (2) and Jed Findlay (22) as Kentisbeare were checked at 112-5.

Harvey Sanders (71) blasted a half-century but eventually became Brimicombe’s third victim as the weight of the run rate finally told.

Steve Batey (3-25) made light work of the tail as Uplyme claimed maximum points, bowling their opponents out for 149.

Uplyme visit Feniton on Saturday looking to extend their 10-point lead over second-placed Clyst Hydon.
