BRIDPORT boss John Godbold is on the brink of finalising his management staff.

Godbold, who joined the Bees in early November, is intent on forming a four-man backroom team.

Former Bridport and Weymouth goalkeeper Rob Marquis has taken the assistant-manager role, while coach James Short has also come aboard at St Mary’s Field.

Godbold is in talks with the final potential member of his support group, who will be tasked with “player recruitment”.

He told the Bridport News: “Rob’s now confirmed as assistant, which is great because he’s got lots of experience locally.

“He played in goal at Weymouth and Bridport for a little while.

“I’m bringing in another local coach, James, he’s going to join us as well.

“I’m still in discussion with one other person who I would like to get on board.

“His role will be more player recruitment, especially locally and youngsters. I haven’t secured that one yet.”

He added: “We’ve had a look at the facilities that are available and James is coming in as a coach who will work with the first-team and reserves.

“Again, that’s another very clear vision that myself and the chairman (Adrian Scadding) had – we want it to be a one-club situation.

“A lot of clubs, the reserves almost become a team in their own entity.

“We don’t want that to be the case, we want people to come and play for Bridport, whether that means they’re playing in the first team, reserves or even in the third team.

“That’s the pathway we want to create. James is working towards his (UEFA) B licence so he fits that bill superbly and he can work alongside the reserve-team manager (Richard Middleton).

“At this level, all reserve and third-team managers need some coaching support.

“I’ve spoken to the lads running those teams and they’re very happy with that situation, so we’re gradually getting there.”
