OTTERY ST MARY II 138 (4pts) lost to UPLYME & LYME REGIS 200-2 (20pts) by 62 runs

JOE Elsworth was the star of the show as Uplyme & Lyme Regis completed a 62-run victory over Ottery St Mary Seconds.

Uplyme maintained their 100 per cent record in Devon League East E3 and now face Feniton in the Tier Five semi-final.

Lyme’s squad has performed admirably this season and once again their young stars dominated proceedings.

Batting first after losing the toss, Uplyme lost openers Charlie Moss (9) and Mark Batey (11) cheaply.

At 47-2, Elsworth was joined by Tyler Wellman – scorer of three centuries this campaign.

But Elsworth took a stranglehold of the innings, compiling a stunning unbeaten 108 off 97 balls including eight boundaries and four sixes.

Wellman played a supporting role, striking five fours in his 45 not out as Uplyme posted 200-2 from 40 overs.

Uplyme’s dazzling duo then shared four wickets as Ottery fell to 20-4, Wellman claiming 2-24 from his spell.

Luke Tierney (23) and Will Lamb (39) counter-attacked for St Mary but when the former fell to Sam Farrow (1-38) the hosts were rocking at 80-6.

Lamb hit five boundaries in his innings to defy Uplyme’s bowlers, while a late 21 from 12 balls by Jake Tierney continued to frustrate Uplyme.

That was until Elsworth (5-22) returned to blast through the tail, claim his five-wicket haul and with it the man-of-the-match award.
