DORCHESTER Town boss Steve Thompson lamented the Magpies’ poor showing in a 3-0 Evo-Stik Southern Premier South loss at home to Swindon Supermarine.

Thompson labelled his side a “different team” to the one that had cruised to a 4-0 victory over higher-league Eastbourne on Saturday as Conor McDonagh and Bradley Hooper goals piled on the misery for the hosts after captain Neil Martin’s first-half own goal.

Josh Bailey was stretchered off with a bad knee injury before centre-back Ross Carmichael nodded against the bar for Dorchester, who bore little resemblance to the side that had netted 14 goals in their past three games.

After watching a run of three wins abruptly halted, Thompson told Echosport the manner of defeat was “very frustrating”.

He said: “We looked a different team. It had to come to an end some time, but to come to an end in such a disappointing fashion with a 3-0 home defeat is very frustrating.

“It’s been a bad night all round, we’ve lost 3-0 and lost one of our best players to what looks a serious injury.

“We have no choice but to go again now.”

The loss means the Magpies’ sole home league win remains a 2-1 victory against Hartley Wintney on September 1.

Thompson said: “I can’t say I’m totally surprised because we’ve had poor home performances before.

“I felt we were working very hard – I didn’t think it was a lack of effort.

“I thought we looked sluggish, second to the ball. They looked comfortable – we had no creative play.

“We did get wide and got crosses in but they were of dubious quality and really we didn’t look like getting on the end of them in the box.”

He added: “We had nothing coming through the middle.

“It was all ‘get it wide to the wing-backs’ and try and get crosses in.

“There were a few good ones, but there were a lot of poor ones as well.”
