I AM delighted to see in the Bridport News that the Sir John Colfox Academy is now teaching Latin and Greek - something which must surely make it an exceptional school in the state sector.

The relatively recently departed Sir John (1924-2014) used modestly to say that he could not read or write - which was total nonsense. He was a voracious reader and very well informed but well aware that there is always someone far cleverer than oneself and that we need everyone and all have a role to play in living happily together.

It is brilliant that the school which so kindly bears his name is doing all it can to provide exciting educational opportunities for everyone - for the very brightest and for those with different life skills with whom Sir John often liked to empathise.

I’m very proud of the school which bears his name and so was he. Well done Bridport.
