A popular bonfire and fireworks display has been postponed due to a bad weather forecast.

Bonfire by the Beach is a free annual event held on East Beach organised by West Bay Days.

It had been scheduled to take place tomorrow, Saturday, October 28, but has been delayed due to a poor weather forecast.

It has been re-arranged for Saturday, November 11.

A spokesperson for the event said: "We are very sorry to announce that due to the weather forecast we have had to postpone our event planned for Saturday, October 28.

"Please understand this isn’t a decision that has been made easily and we apologise for any inconvenience this may cause.

"The good news is that we have worked hard to re-arrange the event for Saturday, November 11."

West Bay Days have promised that this year’s display will be ‘even bigger and better’ than ever, thanks to some extra funding from Bridport Round Table.

The free event will see live entertainment from musicians including Nina Garcia, Mustang Sally, and What the Phunk.

There is also a ‘Guy competition’ with the winner taking the honour of lighting the bonfire.

This comes after heavy rain caused flooding in west Dorset this week.

Last year’s event was a roaring success, raising £6,396.21 for local groups and causes.

Donations are encouraged to raise funds for local groups and causes.

Visitors are encouraged to leave dogs at home.
