Catherine Crabbe, her mother Rachael and Catherine’s children William, 9, and Charlie, 6, presented the cheque courtesy of the sponsors of their somewhat painful walk.

Catherine, who was joined on the walk by her mum, sister-in-law Daisy and brother Jon, said: “We all had a few blisters, and walking over Golden Cap in the dark is not to be recommended. But we were delighted with the result for a good cause.”

They started at the Chesil Beach car park before walking around Portland before taking on the westward coastpath towards Devon.

The family hoped to complete the 50-mile walk within 24 hours and managed it in an impressive 22.

Catherine's husband Tom is also at the helm of the volunteer crew of Lyme Regis lifeboat team.
