Four family members who walked 50 miles from Portland to a shop they run in Devon have raised thousands for the RNLI.

Catherine Crabbe organised the walk and took on the hike with mum Rachael Tattershall, twin brother Jonathan Tattershall and sister-in-law Daisy Donoghue.

The group trekked from the Dorset isle to the Post Office store in Colyford, near Lyme Regis, on Sunday, May 28, raising £2,000 for the lifeboat charity.

They started at the Chesil Beach car park before walking around Portland before taking on the westward coastpath towards Devon.

The family hoped to complete the 50-mile walk within 24 hours and managed it in an impressive 22.

Catherine, who runs the business with her mum and dad, Geoff, said: “Our legs are still aching and there are a few blisters, but we made it.

“It took about 22 hours. The weather and views were gorgeous but I do not recommend walking over Stonebarrow and Golden Cap in the dark.

“There are some big birthdays coming up in the family so we thought we would celebrate in advance with the walk and raise donations for the RNLI at the same time.”

Catherine's husband Tom is also at the helm of the volunteer crew of Lyme Regis lifeboat team.
