BRIDPORT Reserves have named Adam Herring as their new manager.

Herring was chosen by first-team boss Chris Herbst, who ascended to the Bees' job after a spell with the club's second string.

Once Herbst put Herring forward as his preferred choice, Bridport signed off the decision yesterday evening.

Herring is joined by assistant Shaun Annetts, who returns to the Bees after leaving Bridport's caretaker job in April.

Sam Day and Adam Steele complete a four-man coaching setup.

Herbst and Herring have a long association, having both been involved at Dorset Senior League team Beaminster.

Speaking to the Bridport News, Herbst listed Herring's understanding of the vision for the club as a major factor in his appointment.

He said: "Bridport have gone local, so I thought it made sense for me to go local.

"I've spoken to Adam a couple of times at the ground and he just gets it. He understands that their aim is to get players into the first team.

"He's just fully on board, that's the main thing. I felt I needed to make sure the reserves are settled so I can focus on the first team."

He added: "He's been involved at Beaminster for 15 years as a player. When I played at Beaminster, he was a person that when he spoke, you listened.

"He's a good footballing brain. I'm confident that with Shaun, Adam Steele and Sam they're highly regarded.

"It's a good opportunity because the team's there. The team's only going to get stronger and they will start climbing the table."

Herring's first game will be at home to Wimborne Town Reserves in the Jewson Dorset Premier League on Tuesday evening (7.45pm).
