BRIDPORT interim boss Chris Herbst has revealed he has formally applied for the vacant manager’s position.

Bridport are understood to have whittled applicants down to a shortlist and could make an appointment next week.

Current Bridport Reserves manager Herbst has been in caretaker charge of the Bees since previous boss Edgar Marcu was sacked earlier in September.

Herbst will continue his role in Saturday’s South West Peninsula League Premier East clash at Torridgeside (3pm).

He had previously been mulling over whether to apply for the position but has now revealed he is among the contenders for the job.

Speaking to the Bridport News about his chances of taking the manager’s hotseat, he said: “I’ve played it down but I would want it. It’s not for me to decide.

“I can’t really say much but I have applied. We’ll see.

“Obviously the Vase you can’t pick up points but the two other games I felt we should’ve got more points.

“There’s definitely positives there and people can see that. It will be interesting in the next few weeks I expect.”

On Saturday, Herbst led the Bees to their first victory for 392 days by beating Petersfield Town 2-0, a result that also ended a four-year wait to reach the FA Vase first round.

Herbst has also overseen a 1-1 draw at Sidmouth and a 2-0 loss to Dartmouth in league action.

Whoever gets the manager’s job will be tasked with lifting the Bees out of bottom spot in the table, following relegation from the Toolstation Western League Premier Division last season.
