BRIDPORT are hopeful returning players can aid their cause at Wellington in the Toolstation Western League Premier Division on Saturday (3pm).

Midfielders Dom McAllister, Sam Handyside plus striker Tony Carlile are all back in the frame for the struggling Bees, who have earned one victory in 16 games.

They face a Wellington side who scored twice in each half during the reverse fixture, winning 4-0.

However, the Bees created plenty of chances that day, missing two golden opportunities from six yards and also wobbling the bar through McAllister.

Speaking to the Bridport News, Bees’ boss Rob Marquis said: “I’ve got a few more coming back in for selection.

“I hopefully will have a better squad to select from so I’m hoping to be able to put a more competitive team out.”

On the previous fixture against the Tangerines, Marquis added: “We gave a stupid goal away early and then the second half we came back into it.

“As always, we give the other team a head start. We did compete, we had a go and I thought we gave a good account of ourselves after we went 2-0 down.

“It was frustrating because we grew as the game went on. We left ourselves a mountain to climb. If we’d have been switched on from the start it would’ve been a better outcome.

“Wellington are not too far away from us. Millbrook, Cadbury Heath, Ashton, those are the sides down in our area.

“I’m not audacious enough to say we will beat them but if we’ve got any chance of getting out of (the relegation zone), we’ve got to be looking to get points against teams in our area of the league.”

Wellington sit 15th, some 11 points and four positions above Bridport.
