A FURTHER stage has been reached bringing nearer the development of Vearse Farm (Bridport News 1st April).
Barratt Developments and Vistry have acquired an interest in the lands which received planning permission in 2017 subject to the provisions of a Section 106 Agreement. Amongst the provisions of such Agreement was one providing for 35% of the build i.e. 266 to be affordable homes.
Notwithstanding, the terms of the Section 106 Agreement and, moreover, having regard to the needs of the people, the developers plan to build only 120 affordable homes. This is short of their commitment by 146 units.
There are at the present some 413 people on the waiting list requiring a home to rent or buy in Bridport.
As invariably happens, developers renege on their responsibilities and promises.
Consequently, the Agreement is not worth the paper it is written upon. Profit becomes more important than our peoples’ needs - especially the young!
