WEYMOUTH Wildcats' Midland & Southern Development League meeting with Birmingham Bulls has been postponed after heavy rain made the Belle Vue track surface unfit for racing.

Weymouth Wildcats co-promoter Martin Peters had sung the praises of Cesca Kirtley-Paine with the Wildcats’ talent primed to make history against the Bulls should the fixture have taken place.

For the first time ever in speedway folklore, two women would have taken to the track on opposite teams with Bulls’ Rachel Hellowell making her final appearance for the side ahead of starting a new job.

And Peters celebrated the impact of Kirtley-Paine in her debut season for Weymouth.

He told Echosport: “She’s done lots of radio interviews and speaks really well every single time – she’s a good representative of what she’s about and ladies’ speedway in general.

“She’s great to have around and she’s done well as well. She set a target of scoring at least one point but at Poole she scored five.”

However, the meeting was postponed for a second time with yellow weather warnings for rain across the Midlands finally putting paid to the contest after the original meeting was postponed due to a curfew.

Bulls beat the Wildcats 23-12 in a misleading scoreline earlier in August.

Peters said: “It was a lot closer than the scoreline suggests. James Laker got pipped twice on the line and Jacob (Clouting) fell off in his last ride which turned a 3-3 into a 5-0. It could’ve been a lot closer.”

Wildcats had named James Laker, Jacob Clouting, Cesca Kirtley-Paine and Sam Peters in their squad.
