ONE Friday I drove from the Midlands to Lyme Regis.

I had researched car parks and parked in Woodmead, ready to pay for a week’s parking.

Unfortunately, I could get no signal on my mobile phone anywhere.

The ticket machine did not take notes so I had to go to the Post Office for coins, which I inserted one at a time, taking several seconds for each coin to register.

Having inserted £26, it told me I had paid until the following Tuesday – four days.

I retrieved my coins and tried another machine.

The results were the same.

Finally, after an hour, and filled with frustration and anger, I left Woodmead and drove to Holmbush Car Park.

There the machine worked perfectly and I paid a lot less to park for a week.

What a welcome to Lyme and what an appalling system. I have written to the town council.
