In your edition of September 18, under the headline ‘Town surveyor goes beyond the call of duty’ you printed a letter noting the big contribution of Daryl Chambers and the town council teams to the successful carnival and Hat Festival.

May I add my comments as chairman of the Bridport Community Orchard, as we also work closely with Daryl to manage the orchard all year, run events and provide a great green public space in the centre of town.

I know that this year the town council has been directly responsible for organising the Community Fair, Freedom Of Bridport (Rifles), Commemoration of WWI Parade and Service, Bridport Marquee at Melplash Show, Town Hall Heritage Days and Remembrance Sunday Parades.

They have also given various support to the organisers of the Ropewalk Fair, May Fair, Food Festival, Charter Fair, Music Festival, Carnival and Torchlight, Hat Festival, Christmas Cheer and the various Orchard events.

Under the watchful eye of the town clerk, Bob Gillis, Linda Bullock undertakes the event planning and arrangements, with the office team Paul Fuszard, Jill Cox, Steven Yarde and Tessa Greenaway. Daryl’s outside team are Paul Violet, Kevin Eden, Loren Winters, Rob Goodland, Sean Coombs and Ray McLaren, who help him deal with the logistics of road closures, erection of council mini marquees, tables and chairs in Bucky Doo Square (and in other venues, including the orchard) bunting, flags and signs etc.

So may I, through your columns, give a warm vote of appreciation and thanks to this amazing team, inside and out, who give so generously of their time, and are always cheerful, friendly, efficient, helpful and fun.
