MAY I through your newspaper thank everyone who helped make the Jurassic Fields Music Festival such a success.

It was the first time anyone has attempted such an event of this scale in Bridport, and although we made a small loss, I and fellow organiser Scott Morris were extremely pleased with how well it went.

There are, as would be expected when organising an event of this size, a few things that could be improved as well as some changes we have thought of following the experience.

However none of this would have been achieved without the help of so many people.

Firstly our thanks to town surveyor Daryl Chambers and the Bridport Town Council staff who have been a tremendous help and guidance with their experience of other festivals.

Also the West Dorset Safety Advisory Group who guided me through the myriad of paperwork required to meet regulations and obtain licenses when we started looking at the idea last September.

A big thank you also to our sponsors, who without their financial support we could not have produced such an excellent line-up of musical and comedy acts.

That is not to forget a huge number of local companies who supplied equipment and manpower free of charge, and volunteers who helped, either in the run up by building or setting up the site, or on the day by manning bars and stewarding.

Our appreciation must also go to JSW Productions for a brilliant job co-ordinating the event on the day.

Lastly thanks to the people of Bridport and West Dorset for supporting the festival by attending.

We hope you all had a wonderful day, and although it was extremely hard work, we hope you enjoyed the experience.

We hope that we can do it again next year.

Invitation to enjoy Event 5 at carnival

In response to Paul Turner’s letter in last week’s Postbag, ‘music festival price steep for low paid’, I would like to point out that a charity music festival has been operating for five years in Bradpole opposite the Kings Head Public House.

It is called The Event.

Event 5 takes place on August 9 heading the Carnival Week activities. All the artists, helpers and sponsors give their time free so that money can be raised for street children and Bridport Carnival charities.

On August 9, more than 22 artists will be playing from 12pm to 11.30pm, there will be a licensed bar, food outlets, children’s activities, tombola and raffle.

The cost is £5 per person and children under 12 are admitted free.

We would be pleased to see Mr Turner and anyone else at Event 5.
