Having lived on the Skilling estate since 1938, I went with great expectations to see the documentary showing at the Bridport Arts Centre entitled ‘A History of Skilling’.
The first 20 or so minutes were quite informative but then the film makers homed in on the group of flats often referred to as H Block, owing to its layout. The documentary then concentrated on anti-social problems as though they were typical across the whole estate, which they most certainly are not.
A DVD has been produced for sale describing Skilling as a failed estate, which I consider to be an insult to all the decent people living there.
Interestingly, almost all of those interviewed had complaints against the estate – what happened to the opinions of those residents who are happily living on the estate?
I do not object to a critical view as long as that view is based on all the facts and not manipulated in order to sensationalise a story.
