I have read about the plans for the new social care ‘hub’ planned for Bridport and the need to replace/modernise the existing Sidney Gale care home facilities.

It seems to me that with funding in place the council can do no better but to look at the present site together with the still undeveloped adjoining ex Mountjoy School site in Flood Lane which has lain idle for a over a year now.

I feel that it would be very beneficial for our community in Bridport that the new community hub be built on these sites, retaining easy access for users, visitors and carers alike. It had been mooted that the owners of a national chain of premier hotels were interested in the Mountjoy site but luckily nothing seems to have come of that.

With the council ‘quietly sitting’ on this site and soon to get another piece of prime land, I hope, and this is my cynical mind working, that they are not already planning to sell it for commercial gain to supermarket owners, hoteliers or the like.

In fact, if it is too costly to develop a new care hub here then surely a good option would be to develop low cost housing rather than at Vearse Farm therefore benefiting Bridport again.
