AFTER Monday’s excellent win at Gillingham Town, Bridport can exceed last season’s league points total with a third success of the campaign against Hengrove Athletic at St Mary’s Field on Saturday (3pm).

The 2-1 Bank Holiday triumph over the Gills, with goals from Gary Bulman and Dan Wise, took the Bees up to 47 points, matching the total they amassed last term.

And they could have every chance of adding six more to their current tally if they play like they did against the Gills in their two remaining fixtures.

Hengrove, bottom of the Toolstation Western League Premier Division, are a side the Bees have beaten in the league and FA Cup already this season, so a third victory could be on the cards this weekend – Bridport end their campaign at Slimbridge a week on Saturday.

Darren Watts and Max Buckler are set to return to the squad after missing the Gills win, but Matt Condliffe (suspension), Ryan Dovell (injury) and Chris Senior (unavailable) will not feature.

“Hopefully we can give the fans something to shout about,” said boss Trevor Senior.

Senior had to make a few enforced changes to his squad for the Gillingham game after a 3-0 reverse to Street on Good Friday.

The visitors took the lead midway through the first half, Bulman scoring with a bullet header, before the hosts equalised just after half-time.

However, the Bees won it when Wise held his nerve from the penalty spot.

“It was an excellent win and we played very well,” said Senior. “We had five or six players missing but Gary was one who came in and did really well for us.

“It was a very good all-round team performance.”
