BEES: Senior's men are not Street-wise
BRIDPORT 0 STREET 3
GOOD Friday turned sour for Trevor Senior’s Bridport, as they were convincingly beaten by Street at St Mary’s Field.
The Bees fell behind in the first half when Matt Condliffe’s clearing header was rifled back by a Street player into the top of Bridport keeper Sam Filkins’ net.
Tom Richardson then went close with a header for the home side in the first half, and Matt Morley looked a constant threat on the left flank for the hosts, but they failed to find the penetration they needed to break through the visitors’ defence.
And things got worse before the interval as Senior’s men went 2-0 behind.
Keeper Filkins was caught in no-man’s-land rushing out of his area, and although Ryan Hayter and Shane Evans did their best to clear the visitors’ effort off the line, Street doubled their advantage before the interval.
Senior told Echosport: “We thought that the next goal was going to be the most important and we looked much better in the second half.”
But after Chris Senior’s neat through ball found Jamie Filkins, who saw his shot well saved, minutes later the visitors caught the Bees with a sucker- punch on 65 minutes, as they rounded off their victory with a clinical breakaway goal.
The Bridport boss added: “If that goal had gone in for Jamie Filkins, at 2-1 it’s a different game but we can’t argue on the day, they deserved it.
“All credit to the lads, they stuck at it but we kept getting hit on the break and they got men forward quite quickly.
“I was more pleased with our performance today than I was at the likes of Winterbourne and Cadbury Heath, so there are some positives."
The result means that Bridport have lost three out of their last four league outings and remain on 44 points in the Toolstation Western Premier Division table.
Bees: S Filkins, J Filkins, Condliffe, Evans, Stewart, Ry Hayter, Luke (Rh Hayter 75), Wise (Bulman 75), Richardson, Senior, Morley (Hailu 80) Attendance: 104
