AFTER just one win in their last dozen league outings struggling Bridport will be desperate to have top scorer Ryan Dovell available for tomorrow’s trip to Melksham Town (3pm).

The two teams drew 1-1 earlier this month but Bridport manager Trevor Senior faces the prospect of starting the reverse fixture without his star striker.

Dovell could miss the Tool-station Western Premier Division showdown due to work commitments, leaving Bridport without their main attacking threat up front.

On the other hand, Senior does welcome back Matt Condliffe (groin) and Chris Clarke (thigh) into the fold although Jamie Morgan will not be involved because of work.

Goals are vital if Bridport want to keep away from the relegation zone and Senior feels that confidence in the team will grow if they can strike first.

He told Echosport; “The mood in the squad isn’t bad, it’s just a bit of confidence the lads are lacking.

“We’ve conceded the first goal too many times and when we go behind the players’ heads drop a little bit, so if we can get a lead it means we have something to defend and are not chasing the game.

“We lost 4-0 last time out but we still had chances. We’ve got to make sure we take them when they come and if we can minimise our mistakes things will turn around.

“The lads are concerned about it but at the same time they are talking about how to stop conceding first which is a good sign.

“They want to put it right and they’ll stick together. There are 21 games left so there is still plenty of time.”

Losing Dovell would be a massive blow to Bridport’s hopes tomorrow and Senior has ruled out the possibility of adding a new face to his striking options.

“We’ve played with the same system for the last three or four years and done okay so it’s all about goals really,” he added.

“If Ryan isn’t scoring it’s hard to see where our goals are going to come from. He’s got 10 this season and hasn’t played in all the games and he might not be there on Saturday.”

Melksham are only three places and two points above Bridport in the table but have played three games fewer.

Since the draw with Brid-port on December 1, Melk-sham also earned a point from a 1-1 stalemate against Bris-lington last Saturday.
