ST CATHERINE’S were this year’s winners of the Bridport and Beaminster area Quad Kids athletics competition as 13 teams battled it out at the Sir John Colfox Academy led by school PE staff alongside their sports leaders.

Teams of eight, with four girls and four boys each completed a 75-metre sprint, a howler throw, a standing long jump and a 600m run and the results were converted into points to decide the winners.

St Catherines’ team took the award for team winners for the third year running with a score of 1,510 points, beating Bridport Primary School into second place with 1,418 points while Bridport St Mary’s were close behind, with 1,387 points.

The first three individual boys and girls received trophies from the headteacher of the academy, David Herbert, for the highest personal combined totals.

Zac Mudford, from Symondsbury, took the boys title with 244 points, just ahead of Alex Cox from Symondsbury with 240 and Tim Pearce from Bridport St Mary’s team with 235 points.

Maisy Herbert from St Catherine’s was the girls’ champion with a score of 209 points, followed by Issie Cooper from Thorners with 192 and Anna Scarborough from Parrett & Axe with 188 points.

Alex Cox from Symondsbury ran a time of 1.53 mins in the 600m earning him 77 points and headed the 75m sprint in the boys’ section with a fast time of 10.5 secs (65 points).

In the boys’ standing long jump Callum Beavis, from Bridport Primary School, jumped 2.04m to top the lists and claim 61 points.

However, the highest-scoring individual boys’ performance of the day went to Mudford in the Howler throw, whose 40.9 metres earned him 81 points and helped him claim the overall winner’s prize.

In the girl’s competition Scarborough (Parrett & Axe) had the fastest time of 2.12 for the girls 600m (58 points). Helena Cox (Parrett & Axe) recorded a jump of 1.83 meters that earned her 50 points.

Herbert won the sprint (St Catherines’) whose 10.97 secs earned her 60 points, and she also landed the biggest throw in the girl’s section with a 29m that earned her 58 points and helped her to the overall first place.
