SANDFORD 2

LYME REGIS 2

LYME Regis left it late to pick up a point on the road, drawing 2-2 at Sandford in the Devon & Exeter League Premier Division.

Fortunes were looking rosy for the Seasiders after Josh Daines was brought down in the box, allowing the returning Rob Fellingham to convert a penalty for 1-0 at half-time.

However, Sandford staged a fightback to lead 2-1 when Tudor Morgan-Huggett and Sam Reeve turned the game on its head, including the winning and scoring of a penalty.

With time running out, Ben Turner popped up to net a deserved equaliser for Kevin Turner’s men, heading home from a Fellingham free-kick.

Lyme boss Turner labelled the draw as “just reward” after a tricky week, the club grateful to keeper Robbie Fowler for driving from Cornwall to deputise in goal for the injured Chris Higgs and suspended Will Meech.

Turner said: “It’s just reward, in hindsight we should’ve got the three points but I’m more than happy with the effort the lads put in.

“The penalty threw them a bit, rather than getting on with the game they were sulking. Then when they went 2-1 down they snapped out of it and started playing again.”
