PINHOE 0 LYME REGIS 7

LYME Regis and Joe Bond continued their fine form in front of goal at Pinn Lane to move to within just one point of the top spot in Devon & Exeter League Division Three.

Bond’s hat-trick took his tally in the last three games to 11, while the Seasiders have netted 25 times in that run of matches.

And with leaders Exmouth Town Reserves dropping points again last weekend, Lyme could potentially move to the summit if results go their way this Saturday.

They travel to Barley Park to face Tedburn St Mary (2.15pm), the side they thrashed 9-1 just two weekends ago, and will have keeper Chris Higgs available again after suspension.

As well as Bond’s treble, Declan Ellis, twice, Dom Rowe and Ben Whittington also scored against Pinhoe in the visitors’ 7-0 triumph.

“Pinhoe tried to get everyone behind the ball and it was only 1-0 at half-time,” said Seasiders’ chief Tim Edwards. “But they couldn’t deal with our set-pieces and we pulled away in the second half.

“Alfie Bellworthy set up two goals within 10 minutes of coming off the bench, and Joe Bond had to play differently to how he normally does.

“He usually plays off the shoulder of his marker but on Saturday he had to come deeper and link up more with the midfield.”

Meanwhile, in the Perry Street Premier Division, Lyme Regis Reserves, who lost 7-1 to Shepton Beauchamp last time out, host Beaminster this Saturday and Lyme Bantams go to Chard United in Division One (both 2pm).
