LYME Regis are set to leave the Perry Street and District League in a bid to give their players a chance of performing at a higher standard.

It is understood that Lyme’s switch to the Devon & Exeter League will be confirmed next month after club representatives held talks with league officials last week.

Speaking about the change, Lyme boss Tim Edwards said: “We’ve got a lot of decent youngsters and if we can’t offer them a higher standard of football then they are going to seek it elsewhere.

“It may take us a couple of years to build to where we want to be in the Devon & Exeter League but we can progress there.

“The people we met last week were as good as gold and it was a very positive meeting, it’s just a case now of seeing which division they put us in at their AGM.”

The Seasiders rounded off their season in style on Saturday with an 8-1 demolition of Combe Reserves to secure second place in the Perry Street League Premier Division.

Joe Bond’s two goals took him to 30 for the campaign while keeper Chris Higgs also found the net as an outfield player – the win followed a 4-0 victory over Misterton two days before.

Meanwhile, the exploits of the club this season will be recognised on June 20 when they are given a civic reception by the town mayor.
