ALLENDALE 1 LYME REGIS 4

JOE Bond’s hat-trick propelled Lyme Regis to back-to-back Dorset Intermediate Cup triumphs at St Mary’s Field in Bridport.

The deadly marksman put his side 2-0 up and added a third in the second half after David Wrixton had pulled a goal back for Allendale just before the interval.

Harvey Brimicombe scored Lyme’s fourth to put the seal on another cup final success for boss Tim Edwards and his men.

Two sets of vocal supporters provided a fitting atmosphere for the showpiece event, and the teams produced an entertaining final.

Lyme took the lead against the run of play in the 13th minute, Bond using his pace to latch on to a through ball before firing home.

Chris Higgs then made a stunning save to prevent Wimborne-based Allendale from equalising.

Bond netted a second just before the half hour before Wrixton reduced the arrears prior to the interval.

The ever alert Bond completed a fine hat-trick after the break, before setting up the fourth for Brimicombe.

Seasiders’ skipper Matt Laing was only too grateful to receive the trophy from Geoff Pike, chairman of the Dorset FA board of directors, after the final whistle.

Meanwhile, in the Perry Street Premier Division, Lyme are up to third following a 0-0 draw with Beaminster and 7-1 thrashing of Misterton in the last week.

Two away games, against Shepton Beauchamp on Saturday (2.30pm) and Ilminster Reserves next Tuesday (6.15pm), now follow for Lyme.
