LYME Regis can close the gap on Perry Street League Premier Division leaders Crewkerne on Saturday when they take on the only side to have beaten them all season.

Rivals Beaminster will arrive at Davey Fort (2pm) looking for a repeat of their 1-0 victory over the Seasiders in the Coronation Cup at the end of October.

That has turned out to be Lyme’s sole defeat of the campaign so far as they sit third in the table, four points behind Crewkerne with two games in hand.

And with Crewkerne in Somerset Junior Cup duty this weekend, Lyme have the perfect opportunity to narrow the deficit to just a single point.

But, like so many managers, Lyme boss Tim Edwards isn’t too hopeful his men will see any action this weekend following the recent heavy rain.

“I’m not too confident that Saturday’s match will be on,” he said.

“And unless the weather changes it looks like we will be without a game for the next couple of weeks.

“It would be nice if we did play Beaminster because it would be the last game for Sam Jones before he goes to Australia.”

On his side’s opponents Beaminster, Edwards went on to add: “They came to us in the cup with a good game plan and they got the result.

“They are a decent footballing side but have got a lot of big lads and they knew we weren’t the biggest of teams.

“We matched them in the footballing department, but they were more physical.

“Hopefully we will be a bit more geared up for them this time.”

Elsewhere, last Satur-day’s Division One Cup final between Lyme Regis Reserves and Perry Street Reserves was postponed.

This Saturday, Lyme’s second string go to local rivals Uplyme for a Division One derby (2pm).
