LYME REGIS 5 SHEPTON BEAUCHAMP 0

TIM Edwards felt his side played their best football of the season in thrashing Shepton Beauchamp at Davey Fort.

The win saw the Seasiders soar into the top three in the Perry Street League Premier Division and set them up nicely for Saturday’s trip to bottom club Winsham (2.30pm).

Joe Bond gave Lyme the lead with a header from Mark Bailey’s corner just 90 seconds in before Julien Simier tapped in to make it 2-0.

The victory was all but complete in the 37th minute when Sam Jones squared the ball for Joel Gosling to score.

A lovely solo effort saw Simier score again a minute into the second half and Jones got the fifth soon after with a 20-yard strike.

“That was the best we’ve played this season and our keeper didn’t have a save to make all afternoon,” said Edwards.

“We took our foot off the gas a little after we scored our fifth but we were always comfortable.

“Mark Bailey did well in the middle of the park and it was great to see Declan Ellis come off the bench for his debut.

“He is a centre forward who has been playing with our under-16s and is destined to play at a higher standard.”

As for Winsham, last season’s champions have dropped like a stone since losing their manager and bulk of players in the summer.

“It’s not the easiest of places to go to but we should have enough to beat them,” added Edwards.
