SEATON 262-5 (20pts) beat UPLYME & LYME REGIS 163 (5pts) by 99 runs

HOSTS Uplyme finished a clear second best to Seaton in Devon League D Division as visiting batsman Nick Beedell smashed a century to take the game away from Steve Batey’s men.

Beedell reached 114 before he was caught by Rodney Holmes off the bowling of Ben Whittington by which time Seaton had put themselves in a very strong position.

The centurion and Mark Bray (52) put on 115 for the fourth wicket and the visitors went on to total 262-5 batting first.

It was a tough day in the field for Uplyme and, as well as a run-out, Rhys Davies (1-38), Batey (1-64), Whittington (1-47) and Paddy Barraclough (1-36) all picked up a wicket apiece.

The Uplyme reply got off to a somewhat shaky start with James Dunford (7) and Henry Perry (2) going cheaply.

Jed Whittington show-ed some resistance with 24 and opener Mark Batey (32) occupied the crease for a while until he was fourth man out.

His wicket ended a partnership of 58 with Alex Taylor, who went on to make 63 as his side’s top scorer.

Taylor was one of six victims for man of the match Beedell, who finished with figures of 6-25.

The last six Uplyme batsmen managed just 12 runs between them with both Ben Whitting-ton and Adam Caddy falling to Beedell for ducks.

It was perhaps fitting that Beedell took the match-clinching wicket as Barraclough was caught for four to leave Uplyme 100 short of victory.

Batey’s troops will expect to be given a tough examination this Satur-day when they go to league leaders Clyst Hydon Sports.

In D Division East of the Second XI League, Uplyme were comprehensively beaten by 180 runs at Seaton.

Stuart Wight scored an unbeaten 103 in the hosts’ 279-4 then Uplyme were bowled out for just 99.
