Bridport RESERVES 5 SHAFTESBURY 1

ROBIN Townsend got a good reaction from his players in his first game in charge at St Mary’s Field.

The ex-Lyme Regis boss has taken over the reins at Bridport Reserves following the shock exit of Steve Crabb and his tenure got off to the perfect start with a 5-1 hammering of Shaftesbury.

Harry Fleet, Adam Stordy, Darren Lock, Ashley Clarke and Tristan Gale grabbed the goals for the hosts and Townsend was delighted afterwards.

He said: “The scoreline did flatter us a bit but we took our chances on the day and I could not have been happier with the response I got from the lads in my first game in charge.

“We only had 12 players and within five minutes we lost Dominic Rowe after an ugly clash of heads with Ashley Clarke.

“Dominic went to hospital with a nasty cut under his left eye which required 10 stitches while Ashley played on despite having broken his nose.

“Gary Bulman came on for Dominic and for the first 25 minutes or so we were in control.

“Harry put us ahead with a fine strike from 30 yards that found the top corner before Adam doubled the lead from a corner.

“They then finished the half the stronger side and pulled one back from the spot (through Luke Crane) just before the break when Harry was judged to have nudged over one of their forwards.

“After that we knew the next goal was going to be important and thankfully we got it when Darren found the net with a header midway through the second half.

“Ashley then nodded a fourth with 10 minutes to go before we then got a penalty of our own which Tristan converted to complete the scoring.”
