BROADSTONE THIRDS 117 (4pts) lost to BRIDPORT 121-7 (18pts) by 3 wickets

ALL-ROUNDER Liam Toohill was the star performer in Bridport’s three-wicket win over Broadstone Thirds.

Toohill opened the bowling and tore through the Broadstone top order to claim five wickets in the innings and put his side in the ascendancy, as hosts Broadstone struggled to just 117 all out batting first.

Then in reply, after a mini collapse in the Bridport middle order, Toohill came in and steadied the ship to see his side over the line with an unbeaten 35.

Bridport skipper Duane Gay said: “It was a terrible wicket to be honest, I’m glad I lost the toss because I was going bat first but their skipper fancied a bat.

“We had them 46-6 at one stage and Liam bowled really well to take five wickets.

“On the tricky pitch we managed to bat really well and they had a couple of young spinners that really caused us some problems.

“Mark Tozer came in and kept wicket as well and did really well as he’s only done it a couple of times before. “Smithy (Mark Smith) and I put on 50 for the first wicket but we had a little mini-collapse. I got 29 and Mark got 25.

“But Liam went in and steadied it all up with my brother Ar-thur, they batted well to knock the ball around for about 10 overs.

“Liam is a very good player. He hasn’t hit too many runs for us this year but he always looks good with the bat, he just keeps getting the odd unlucky ball.”

Sixth place Bridport travel to Sherborne Seconds this weekend (1.30pm).
