UPLYME & LYME REGIS SECONDS 214-7 (19pts) beat COUNTESS WEAR SECONDS 203-9 (9pts) by 11 runs

ALEX Taylor claimed four wickets as Uplyme & Lyme Regis recorded an eight-wicket victory at Countess Wear.

The hosts struggled from the outset and soon found themselves on 59-5 despite a dogged effort from M Davey (31).

Neil Price (2-33), Rhys Davis (1-18) and skipper Steve Batey (2-22) all snared wickets before Tay-lor (4-6) and Rod Holmes (1-19) completed the job with Wear reaching just 126.

James Dunford (34no) and Rob Thom (36) then got the reply off to a steady start before Jedd Whittington (34) came in and continued the momentum.

In the end it was left to Dunford and Tyler Wellman (7no) to hit the winning runs, which arrived in the 28th over.

This routine success has lifted Uplyme up to fourth in the Devon League D Division where their next opponents will be Ash-burton at home.

Uplyme Seconds also enjoyed a great win over Countess Wear Seconds at All Saints Cricket Club in D Division East.

The home side racked up 214-7 before restricting their opponents to 203-9 in what proved to be a hard-fought contest.

Ed Clarke (49), Daley Holmes (39no) and Harry Jobson (25) starred with the willow for Uplyme while Brian Rattenbury (3-28), Wallace Blackmore (2-42), Brad Rowe (2-30) and Sam Wooster (2-30) did the damage with the ball.

Reflecting on both performances, Ed Clarke said: “A big welcome back to both Jedd Whittington and Ali Rattenbury who both made significant contributions to another club double of wins.

“The strength and depth of the club was also evident when Tyler got a late call up to the first XI and the seconds still managed to field 11 players, who all contributed to a fine win.

“Most noteworthy were Daley Holmes, who batted with maturity for 39no, and Bradley Rowe and Sam Wooster, who both stepped up to the plate.

“It was also great to see Brian Rattenbury take the top three wickets and finish with figures of 3-28 from his nine overs in what is his 40th season with the club.”
