BISHOP SUTTON 2 BRIDPORT 5
“MEN against boys” was how the official Bishop Sutton AFC Twitter page summed up the afternoon’s proceedings, as Bridport put five past their hosts in a dominant second-half showing in Somerset.
The Bees came in at the break 2-1 behind with just a Tom Richardson goal to show for their endeavours, but second-half strikes from Adam Symes, Sean Stewart and two for Ryan Dovell gave the visitors all three points.
“It was a game of two halves really,” Bees’ boss Trevor Senior told Echosport.
“No disrespect to them but they are not the best side we are going to come across this season.
“I felt if we sat off them they could play a decent bit of football but if we got at them we would be fine. We didn’t really do that in the first half.”
Senior admitted that he read the riot act when his side were a goal behind at the break, and he was ecstatic by the way his troops responded to his team talk.
He added: “I have got to be honest, there were a few words at half-time.
“It was basically what I said before the game but I told the lads we didn’t look sharp enough, we didn’t get in their faces and, with the exception of one or two players, we needed to step it up a little bit.
“In fairness, I think the lads knew that as well and fair play to them, once again we got a good response and this time we came away with the points.
“We would have been disappointed if we hadn’t won that game and to score five goals away from home is really good.”
The victory, Bridport’s first away win of the campaign, puts them in 10th spot in the Toolstation Western Premier Division standings, with seven points accumulated from six league games.
