EX-WEYMOUTH reserve-team boss Mark Carter has agreed to become Trevor Senior’s new number two at Bridport following Kev Leigh’s departure.

Leigh, who had been Senior’s assistant at St Mary’s Field for 18 months, has returned to former club Sherborne Town to be manager Jamie Manley’s second in command.

Senior has wasted no time in finding a replacement for Leigh, with Carter, pictured, accepting an offer to work alongside the Bees’ chief – and it is not the first time the two will have linked up.

Carter played under Senior during the latter’s first spell in charge at Bridport and the pair also worked together at Bridgwater Town.

“I’m obviously sorry to see Kev go,” said Senior. “He told me his heart was always in Sherborne, but having said that he was 100 per cent for Bridport when he was here.

“He was at Sherborne before leaving to go to Westland where he had some success.

“I think most of that Westland team are at Sherborne now so he took up the offer to go back when it came.

“Kev got on really well with everyone at Bridport when he was here and I’d like to wish him all the best.

“It will certainly spice up the derby matches between us and Sherborne next season.”

On Carter’s arrival, he added: “I’ve known Mark for a number of years.

“He played for me at Bridport the first time around and I took him to Bridgwater when I was manager over there.

“He has got a lot of enthusiasm and a bubbly personality, and he was a very good defensive player in his day.

“I'm really pleased he said yes and I know he will fit in well at the club.”

Meanwhile, Bridport's pre-season friendly fixtures are taking shape, with five confirmed so far.

They are as follows; July 15, Portland United (h), July 19, Chard Town (a), July 22, Dorchester Town (h), July 26, Frome Town (h), August 2, Wincanton (h).
