Bridport & West Dorset Gofl Club's Veterans’ Section

DAVE Boggis retained the Holmes Cup following the sixth and final round of competition.

The cup is awarded to the player with the lowest nett total of his three best rounds and was won for the second consecutive year by Boggis.

A score of 213, was just one less than runner-up, veterans’ secretary Brian Savery (214).

The eclectic prize was won by Keith Brown. Thursday’s veterans’ competition was a self-entry, single division Stableford.

RESULTS

1 Ian Campbell (27) 41 points, 2 Terry Kearley (19) 39 (c/b), 3 Marcus Beresford (15) 39, 4 Bob Jukes (38), 5 Richard Fox (18) 35.

Ladies’ Section

THE Ladies’ section enjoyed ‘A Day at the Seaside’, courtesy of captain Di Loving, writes Rosemary Shepherd.

Everyone joined in with the spirit of the day and came suitably attired as bathing belles, lifeguards, beach wardens, sailors, pirates and even mermaids.

The competition for the day was an American Greensomes Stableford, a popular choice enjoyed by 48 members.

A group of 10 ladies, some of whom were playing their first round of competitive golf and some returning after illness or injury, were able to join the festivities, playing a nine-hole Stableford.

The golf was relatively easy compared with the challenging putting competition on returning to the clubhouse.

This involved putting from one end of the practice green to the other.

Only one lady managed to sink a putt, so congratulations to Wendy Newton who won a bottle of wine.

The competition raised £51 for the captains’ charities.
