Peter and Alan’s stableford showing
10:00am Wednesday 30th January 2013 in Sport
THE Thursday competition was a Four-Ball-Better-Ball Stableford with two-man teams, writes Peter Crowter.
Snow prevented some players from escaping their villages and others thought the course was still closed so the field was reduced to 24 pairings.
The morning turned out to be cold but sunny and apart from the first fairway the course was surprisingly dry.
The scores reflected the benign conditions and six teams carded 40 points or more.
Peter Marshall (10) and Alan Jowett (18) came out on top and took the title with 43 points ahead of Keith Mundy (19) and Jeff Webster (27), who finished second with 42 points. Dougie Howells (18) and Derek Griggs (22) came third on count-back with 41 points.
Junior Section THE Junior AGM and presentation took place in the clubhouse.
Tyler Lennox-Gordon was elected junior captain for 2013 while Keiran Mulhall picked up a haul of silverware.
Mulhall won the boys’ player of the year by reducing his handicap from 28 to 13 in 2012.
He also won the Winter Cup, Scratch and Nett Order of merits, Sanctuary Bowl, Pickering Cup, Presidents Trophy and the Tom Wanless Match Play. Lennox-Gordon won the Captain’s Shield.
Coaching certificates were also handed out to Eddie Rose, Maddie Gerrard, Tom Hunt, Alfie Mundy, Daniel Chamney, Archie Kershaw, Mannie Wellman and Ben Carruthers.
PGA professional and junior organiser David Parsons also set out details for the forthcoming season and confirmed that junior coaching for 2013 would start on March 9 from 1.30-2.30pm.
