THERE must be something in the water at the Woodroffe School.

The Lyme Regis school has experienced some of its best sporting success ever in recent weeks with students coming up trumps in a number of disciplines.

PE teacher Ian Snowing said he was amazed by pupils’ achievements.

In football, Cameron Vere has bagged a hat-trick of successes after being selected to play for the Devon FA U18 team, the Dorset Schools U18 team and being made captain of the Devon team.

His classmate Robbie Fellingham has been selected for both county sides and has joined Cameron in taking to the field for the Devon men’s team.

Mr Snowing said: “This is a fully deserved opportunity for two fantastic lads who are excellent all-round sportsmen and great role models to the rest of the school.”

Students Michael Bond and Gavin Pearson have both been selected to play for Devon U16 at rugby.

Also netting success for the school was the Woodroffe U16 Netball Team, which won the South West Dorset Area Championships.

They will now go through to represent the area at the county finals.

The team was made up of Jade Turrell, Ella Tuck, Ellie Comfrey (captain), Charlotte Souter-Phillips, Lorraine White, Ameina Bibb, Laura Grinter and Amber Ellis.

Students have also proved that they can go the distance by experiencing cross country success at the first West Dorset Schools event of the season at the Sir John Colfox School in Bridport.

In the year seven boys’ event Harry Felgate came fourth and Harry Day came fifth. All six boys finished in the top 30. The most successful team was the junior girls’ team with the school’s top four runners placed first, second, eighth and 10th.

Layla Felgate won her race with Abbie Dare second, Annabelle Arnold in eighth and Mollie Hansford in 10th.

In the junior boys’ race Kingsley Wellman came third with Reuben Heeler-Frood in sixth, while the senior boys’ race saw county runner Jack Rumens come second with top 10 performances from James Hansford and Sam Urquart.

The senior girls’ race saw Sophie Keywood and Scarlett Down in ninth and 10th places respectively.
