A MAN has been fined following a police investigation into the supplying of alcohol to children.

The Bridport, Beaminster and Lyme Regis Neighbourhood Policing Teams said: “As a result of enquiries we have been able to identify a local 19 year old who we believe was responsible for purchasing over £100 worth of alcohol each weekend and selling it on to the children of Lyme Regis.

“This male was interviewed about the offences last week and has now been issued with a £90 Penalty Notice for Disorder after admitting supplying alcohol to under 18s.”

The Bridport, Beaminster and Lyme Regis Neighbourhood Policing Teams added that there had been an increase in underage drinking in Lyme Regis since the start of the year.

They had suspected that a sizeable proportion of the alcohol was being purchased by persons over 18 and then sold on to younger people to drink around the seafront and Langmoor Gardens.

Police said they had been working hard over the last couple of months to try and prevent alcohol from being made available to young people in Lyme Regis.

They said they would continue to tackle anti-social behaviour in the area and encouraged people to call 101 if they witness any such behaviour.
