A LOCAL man has been arrested in Lyme Regis on suspicion of burglary.

The 24-year-old was picked up by police in the North Avenue area at 6.35pm on Thursday, March 17.

They are appealing to anyone who witnessed anything in Colway Lane, where the alleged burglary took place, or Manor Avenue at around 6.30pm that evening.

The man has been released on bail.

Dorset Police issued a statement tackling comments they had seen on social media regarding the crime.

A spokesperson said: "There have been comments on social media making mention that this is the same male who was arrested and charged with the burglary at Staples Stores earlier in the week, and saying that he should not have been given bail.

"I can confirm that the male arrested for this burglary is not the same male as the one arrested and charged with the burglary at Staples Stores."

Witnesses are asked to contact police quoting the crime number 55160045092.
