ALL aspects of food, from where it comes from and how to prepare it to what tastes good with what and where to buy it, will be showcased at Bridport's week-long food festival in June.

The Bridport Food Festival has become a must in the town's gastronomic calendar attracting both locals and an increasing number of visitors from across the country.

It's aim has always been a celebration of the local food and drink on offer in and around Bridport and such is the variety it is now a week-long event from June 12 to 18.

Throughout the week food outlets, restaurants, cafes, pubs, farm shops and food producers will be offering day and evening events. There will be free tour of Palmers Brewery, which has been brewing beer in the town since 1794, a festival high tea throughout the week at Bridgehouse Hotel, Beaminster, a master class in how to cook an authentic curry by Helen Choudhury of Bridport’s Taj Mahal Restaurant, a food quiz and cheese tasting at the Ropemakers, a tour of Furleigh Estate, Bridport’s award-winning vineyard, Dorset-based cocktails at the Venner Bar in the Bull Hotel, Wine tasting with Dorset canapés at the Seaside Boarding House and a tour of Leakers Bakery.

There are lots of other events being organised, including a week long ‘Taste Trail’ to give everyone the opportunity to try sample dishes from the many food outlets in the town and surrounding area.

The week culminates with the Bridport Food and Beer Festival in Askers Meadow.

The gates open at 9:30 am. Admission is £3 for adults (£2.50 if you buy in advance from Bridport Tourist Information) and children under 16 years go free.

More than 60 food and drink producers within a 15 mile radius of Bridport will be showcasing their produce.

There will be a full programme in the cookery theatre including a demonstration from Lesley Waters who will be followed throughout the day by other local chefs and food producers who will not only be cooking up their dishes but also giving tips on how best to prepare the food.

For those who wish to improve their culinary skills, the new Make and Take Marquee will be offering an opportunity for you to learn new techniques and skills from local experts including filleting fish with West County Catch, jointing a chicken and experimenting with different flavour combinations to make tasty salad dressings.

In the dedicated Children’s Marquee there will be a range of free food workshops and activities running from 10am to 4pm.

here is also of course over 80 beers and ciders to sample in the Round Table’s Beer tent which will be running alongside.
