A FORMER British Airways pilot from West Dorset has been found guilty of a number of child sex offences.

Bartle Frere, aged 51, of Shipton Gorge, appeared at Bournemouth Crown Court after being accused of arranging or committing 16 sex offences.

These included eight charges of sexually assaulting a boy from West Dorset between April 2000 and January 2003, four counts of making indecent photographs in 2009 of boys in India, arranging or facilitating the abuse of teenage boys in India between 2009 and 2013, and one charge of attempting to record a person doing a private act in 2012.

Frere denied the charges.

After four hours and 16 minutes deliberating, the jury unanimously found Frere guilty of all 16 counts.

Frere was previously convicted of six charges of possessing indecent images of children and two charges of arranging or facilitating the abuse of boys in India following a trial in September last year.

This month, Frere had been re-tried on the 16 charges the jury were unable to reach a verdict on in his previous trial.

Speaking after today's verdict, DS Dave Wise of Dorset Police, the investigating officer, said: "It's obviously a good result. I thank the bravery of the victim of going through it again. It's been a complex investigation.

"Just to go through the huge volumes of computer storage he [Frere] had - it was time consuming.

"I thank all involved in the investigation because it's [the result] is very pleasing."
